I took a friend and went to downtown Oakland on Friday thinking I could pick up my glasses. Oops. Everything was battened down, looked clean but every single store and building window was covered with plywood on Broadway between 8th and 11th St and more…
Whatever had happened the night before, by Friday afternoon the streets were clean, calm and mostly empty. But every single piece of plywood had art on it, up and down the street and down each side street.
The whole collection can be said to have the theme “Say Their Names”. It was very moving to see all these pieces in downtown Oakland so I want to share the pictures I managed to take with everyone else. I couldn’t pick just a few to represent all of them, and I think it detracts from the effect. These were just the ones I saw in a small area of downtown.
